Serving the Word: 28th October

SATURDAY 28th OCTOBER 2023

Luke 6, 12-19

“Jesus went out to the mountain to pray and spent the night praying to God. When it was daylight, he called his disciples, and from among them he chose twelve, whom he also named apostles”.

Today we celebrate the feast of the Holy Apostles Simon and Jude, chosen by the Lord as heralds of the Gospel throughout the earth. Simon is nicknamed the “zealot”. Before he met Jesus he was associated with the “Zealot” movement. A political and very violent movement.

Can you imagine how the words that came from Jesus’ lips resounded in his ears: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God”?

They must have been a powerful process of conversion for him. His constant contact with Jesus brought home to him the value of peace and non-violence.

Jude Thaddaeus is more familiar to us. In many places he is held in great devotion. The two apostles are for us a further call to renew our missionary consciousness in this missionary October which is now coming to an end.

A new call to give birth and rebirth to the joy of the Gospel. May you have a good day and may the joy of proclaiming the Gospel be reborn in you to make it be reborn.

Good day to you.
