Serving the Word: 28th December

THURSDAY 28th DECEMBER 2023

Matthew 2, 13-18

“When Herod saw that he was outwitted by the wise men, he was furious and had all the children in Bethlehem and its environs killed, reckoning the time by what he had found out from the wise men”.

Today we celebrate the memory and feast of the Holy Innocents. Little children who were violently torn from life simply because they were about the age of Jesus.

But today is also a day to remember so many innocent people who are violently torn from life. And not only those large numbers of innocents who are killed before they are born. We also remember those countless innocents who are victims of irrational hatred and other violence. We ask the Lord to protect so many innocent people who are beaten, mistreated, defenceless, marginalised and physically or morally wounded: children, young people, men, old people, women. We also renew our commitment to seek peace and life in abundance for every human being.

Good day to you.
