Matthew 2, 13-18:
“When Herod saw that he was deceived by the magi, he was furious and had all the children in Bethlehem and its environs killed, reckoning the time by what he had found out from the magi.”
Today we celebrate the memory and feast of the Holy Innocents. Little children who were violently torn from life simply because they were about the age of Jesus.
Today is also a day to remember so many innocents who are violently torn from life. We remember those countless innocents who are victims of irrational hatred and other violence even before they are born.
We ask the Lord to protect so many innocent people who are beaten, mistreated, defenceless, marginalised and physically or morally wounded: children, young people, men, old people, women….
We also renew our commitment to seek peace and life in abundance for every human being.
