Serving the Word: 28 November

MONDAY 28th NOVEMBER 2022

Matthew 8, 5-11:

“Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof; it is enough for you to say but the word, and my servant shall be healed.”

The centurion who comes to Jesus today is a pagan, he does not belong to the Jewish people.

But he comes to Jesus with enormous faith, total trust and great humility.

Jesus recognises and values these qualities and grants him what he asks for. Because Jesus makes no distinction between races and peoples.

He looks directly into the heart and knows how to value what is within it.

Today’s centurion teaches us how to live our faith. We repeat his words whenever we participate in the Eucharist before communion: “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.”

Say them to the Lord from now on, giving these words all their depth if you have not done so before.

He will always renew your hope, strengthen and increase your faith.

Trust, God always hears your call.

Good day to you.
