SATURDAY 26th JUNE 2021
Matthew 8, 5 -17:
“Lord, it is not for me that you should come under my roof; it is enough for you to say it by word of mouth, and my servant will be healed.”
The centurion who comes to Jesus today is a pagan, someone who does not belong to the Jewish people.
But he comes to Jesus with great faith, with total trust and with great humility.
Jesus recognises and values these qualities and grants him what he asks for. For Jesus makes no distinction of race or people. He looks directly into the heart and knows how to value what is within it.
The centurion teaches us how to live our faith.
We repeat his words every time we take part in the Eucharist before communion: “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed”.
Say these words in all their profundity if you have not done so before.
Jesus will always renew your hope, strengthen and increase your faith.
Good day.
