Serving the Word: 25th July

MONDAY 25th JULY 2022

Matthew 20, 20-28:

“Whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave. Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many”.

The disciples don’t quite understand Jesus’ language and approach. They are like two parallel worlds. As Jesus goes up to Jerusalem, he speaks to his followers of suffering, of failure, of death on a cross but also of fullness of life. Jesus clearly says that in order to attain glory, one must embrace the cross.

At the same time, the disciples, with the mother of the Zebedee’s in front, are thinking of triumph, of brilliant careers, of great honours, of power?…

Jesus, faced with the ignorant and stubborn stance of his disciples, reminds us again of what he has already told us many times: “the first among you will be your servant”.

Remember and try to live one of the fundamental keys of his Kingdom: true power is service.

Offer yourself today for that work or that task that nobody wants or likes to do. Congratulations to all of you who are celebrating your Saint today: Jacob, James, .

Good day.
