Serving the Word: 24th July

SATURDAY 24th JULY 2021

Matthew 13, 24-30:

The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men slept, an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. Just as it was beginning to turn green and the ear was forming, the weeds also appeared”.

Today we look again at the parable of the sower. And we contemplate it from “the sower of the weeds”.

You and I and all of us are a field in which weeds can be, and often are, sown.

We notice in ourselves not only that the good wheat grows. The weeds of other things that we would not want to grow also grow. Envy grows, laziness grows, selfishness grows, lovelessness grows… weeds grow and grow. But each one of us can also be a sower of weeds. We sow weeds when we resist service, when we fall into criticism, when we do not know how to listen and do not know how to serve….

Today we ask the Lord to uproot from our hearts the weeds that sprout up.

And we also ask the Lord that we may never be sowers of weeds in the hearts of others.

Good day.
