Serving the Word: 24th February

THURSDAY 24th FEBRUARY 2022

Mark 9, 41-50:

“Whoever scandalises one of these little ones who believe, it would be better for him if a millstone were fastened around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.”

Jesus speaks to us again today about radicalism in following him.

We cannot follow him half-heartedly. Everything that hinders us from following him and from being like him must be cut off and thrown away. Even if it costs us as much as cutting off our right hand or taking our eye out of our face.

The Kingdom of God is worth it and deserves that everything is left for him and left behind for him.

Today Jesus is also very hard on those who cause evil and harm defenceless people: “It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea”.

Try to apply to yourself that maxim of St. Anthony Mary Claret: “I will have the heart of a son towards God. Towards myself, the heart of a judge. And towards my neighbour, the heart of a mother”.

Good day.
