Serving the Word: 23rd November

WEDNESDAY 23rd NOVEMBER 2022

Luke 21, 12-19:

“Jesus said to his disciples, “They will lay hands on you, they will persecute you, hand you over to the synagogues and to prison, and they will bring you before kings and governors for my sake. In this way you will have occasion to bear witness”.

How many believers down through the centuries and from the beginning of the Church to the present day have given their lives to be disciples of Jesus and to follow him!

Many of these martyred followers of Jesus are venerated today as saints or blessed.

But there are many more anonymous Christians who have been and continue to be witnesses of Jesus in the midst of contradictions and difficulties. I have known and know many young people who, because they are faithful to Jesus, are the cause of ridicule, criticism and scorn.

I have met and know many others who show me the way of faithfulness and love for the Lord with admirable constancy and absolute dedication.

We have martyrs – which means witness – who accompany us and encourage us in the cause of Jesus.

Let us be courageous and seize every opportunity to bear witness to our faith in the Lord.

As in the early days of Christianity, the world today also needs witnesses.

Have the courage to always be one of them.

Good day to you.
