Serving the Word: 22th September

TUESDAY 22 SEPTEMBER

Luke 8, 19-21:
“These are my mother and my brothers, those who hear the word of God and do it.

In today’s Gospel, it seems as if Jesus disregarded his relatives and even his own mother.
But this is not the case. What Jesus wants to make us see and understand is that there are bonds with him that are stronger than the bonds of flesh and blood.
And they are the bonds of faith.
Trusting in him and following him are above all else.
Mary was honoured because she conceived Jesus in her womb.
But her cousin Elizabeth also congratulated her because she believed in the word that was spoken to her by God and that she listened so attentively that it became flesh in her womb.
May you be a mother, brother or sister of Jesus because you also know how to listen to his word and put it into practice.
Good day.
