Serving the Word: 20th May

SATURDAY 20th MAY 2023

John 16, 23b-28:

“Truly I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father in my name he will give it to you”.

How many times have I heard it said that God does not listen to the prayers we address to him because he does not grant us what we ask for.

However, Jesus promised that whatever we ask the Father in his name he will grant us. We may be missing this requirement in our petitions: to ask in Jesus’ name.

To ask in Jesus’ name is to ask for that which is in line with his Gospel, because sometimes we ask for things that may go in other directions.

Always ask for the gift of the Holy Spirit. He knows what you need. He will know how to give you what is right for you at every moment of your life. And He will also know how to give what is right for others at every moment of their lives.

Ask that the Father’s will be done in you and in all creatures, because your good Father always wants the best for you and for all. Pray today and often, and also very slowly, the prayer of the Lord’s Prayer, which is the prayer that Jesus taught us.

Good day to you.
