John 15, 12-17:
“I call you friends, for all that I have learned from my Father I have made known to you.”
Jesus today gives us the title of friends.
The reason is that he has made known to us what he holds most dear and what he considers most important: the love of the Father.
He himself is the embodiment of this love. In beholding Him we understand the love of the Father.
And in him we contemplate that his love is a love that appreciates, enriches, gives, helps, solves, gives life in a constant attitude of service and self-giving…..
This is the love that Jesus commands us to practise and not as something imposed on us from outside, but as something that springs from within us, drowning all our desires to possess, to dominate, to appropriate or to take advantage of others.
Contemplate Jesus once more and tell him many times that you too want to be his friend.
