Serving the Word: 20th August

THURSDAY 20 AUGUST

Matthew 22, 1-14:
“Go now to the crossroads, and invite everyone you meet to the wedding feast.”

Pope Francis has repeated to us many times and in many ways that the Church must be continually “on the move”.
This is also the invitation of today’s Gospel: “Go to the crossroads.
Let us go out to all the crossroads of the life of men and women:
+ to the crosses of pain,
+ to the crosses of sadness,
+ to the crosses of emigration,
+ to the crosses of the refugees,
+ to the crosses of poverty,
+ to the crosses of unemployment,
+ to the crosses of consumption,
+ to the crosses of comfort,
+ to the crosses of drugs,
+ to the crosses of the pandemic…
and to so many other crosses that we have to ask to participate in the banquet of the kingdom.
No one is excluded from this banquet. All we are asked to do is to wear the garment of the feast and to have an open heart to God’s merciful invitation.
So let us put on festive clothing and go out to the crossroads inviting everyone to the table of the Banquet of the Kingdom of God.
Good day.
