Serving the Word: 19th December

MONDAY 19th DECEMBER 2022

Luke 1, 5-25:

“He will go before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, preparing for the Lord a people well disposed.”

Advent is progressing and every day we are getting closer to the birth of Jesus.

And, once again, the figure of John the Baptist.

In order to make God’s power and initiative more palpably manifest, John the Baptist will be born of an old and barren woman. For nothing is impossible for God.

Zechariah doubts, his faith is put to the test. He hesitates and is silent until the child John is born. Then what the angel foretold him is realised: “You will be overjoyed and many will rejoice at his birth”.

The birth of John is already a prelude to the birth of Jesus.

How many things are also proclaimed to you by the Lord. And it is possible that you also question and doubt like Zechariah.

Ask the Lord today that your faith may grow more and more each day. May you always be ready to listen to him, and may the Lord always find in you the readiness he expects.

You too will be filled with joy.

Good day to you.
