Serving the Word: 18th October

WEDNESDAY 18th OCTOBER 2023

Luke 10, 1-9

“The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest. Set out on your journey”.

Today too, as in Jesus’ time, the harvest is plentiful and the labourers few. Even without knowing it, our world hungers and thirsts for God because it hungers and thirsts for peace and justice, for forgiveness and mercy, for goodness and beauty, for love and acceptance. Our world is like a huge field waiting for God’s rain because it is dying of thirst. And it is waiting for workers who will set out on the road, overcoming obstacles, putting all their effort into it, prepared not to stop, very light of baggage and unafraid of fatigue.

Set out today! Be in tune with the whole Church that, following the example of Pope Francis, wants to live in “going out”.

We do not evangelise from paralysis or with our arms folded, sitting quietly in an office or in an armchair. We evangelise by going out of ourselves and setting out on a journey.

Let us also ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.

Good day to you.
