Serving the Word: 18th December

MONDAY 18th DECEMBER 2023

Matthew 1, 18-24

“Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child that is in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins”.

The figure of St. Joseph could not be absent in Advent. Today he appears on the scene as he always appears in the Gospel: open to the ways of the Lord.

Joseph is the man who sees, believes, suffers, keeps silent, waits and obeys. Different paths would pass through his mind. But when he saw the path that God marked out for him, because he had need of him, he did not hesitate to commit himself and accept his will with all the consequences.

He assumed in faith that God was at work in his life and in the life of Mary, and he lives this mysterious reality with gratitude.

Ask the Lord, through the intercession of St. Joseph, that you may always accept his plans and realise them every day in your life.

And also ask St. Joseph to help you prepare for Christmas with the same affection that he was preparing for the birth of Jesus.

Good day to you.
