FRIDAY 17th NOVEMBER 2023
Luke 17, 26-37
“He who seeks to keep his life will lose it, and he who loses it will regain it”.
From today’s Gospel I am left with these words of Jesus. Those who have chosen to lay down their lives have been and are the ones who have had and still have the most life. And I am not thinking only of martyrs or people as dedicated as Teresa of Calcutta or John Paul II.
I think of so many people who in simplicity and humility are giving their lives daily: mothers, grandmothers, doctors, nurses, teachers, professors, priests, “shepherds with the smell of the sheep”, workers of many kinds.
I wish to be like many of these people who, without asking for anything in return, are “earning” their lives at the cost of giving and “losing” their lives in service to others. I invite you to embark today not on Noah’s ark, but on the boat of the Church and begin to sail out to sea, earning your life by giving it away with joy, courage and hope.
Good day to you.
