Serving the Word: 16th March

WEDNESDAY 16th MARCH 2022

Matthew 20, 17-28:

“Whoever wishes to be the greatest among you, let him be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you, let him be your slave. Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many”.

The disciples don’t quite understand Jesus’ language and approach. They are like two parallel worlds. As Jesus goes up to Jerusalem, he speaks to his followers of suffering, of failure, of death on the cross and also of fullness of life.

And at the same time the disciples, led by the mother of the Zebedees, are thinking of triumphs, of brilliant careers, of great honours, of power….

Jesus, faced with the ignorant and stubborn stance of his disciples, reminds us once again of what he also told us a few days ago: “the first among you will be your servant”.

Remember and try to live one of the fundamental keys of his Kingdom: true power is service.

Carry out today that work or that task that you know no one likes to do.

Good day.
