Serving the Word: 14th September

TUESDAY 14th SEPTEMBER 2021

John 3, 13-17:

“God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that none of those who believe in him should perish, but have eternal life.”

We are in danger of associating the cross only with pain, tears, mourning and death.

And certainly the cross of Christ is self-giving to the end and sacrifice unto death.

But, above all, it is life, triumph and resurrection.

The cross of Christ is strength in weakness.

Grace and consolation in pain.

Forgiveness in offence.

Manifestation of the absolute and gratuitous love of the Father.

Today, feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, contemplate a crucifix with faith and love.

Place on it your own crosses and all the crosses you know.

Enliven your hope.

Honour it and show it to a world that, scourged by the cross of a pandemic and by many other crosses, is in need of its saving and redeeming power.

Good day.
