Serving the Word: 14th January

FRIDAY 14th JANUARY 2022

Mark 2, 1-12:

“Then four men came carrying a paralytic, and when they could not get him in because of the crowd, they raised some tiles above where Jesus was, and made a hole, and let down the stretcher with the paralytic on it. Then Jesus said to the paralysed man, “I am speaking to you: get up, take your stretcher and go home”. Immediately he got up, took the stretcher and went out in full view of everyone”.

In today’s Gospel there are several characters:

* First of all, Jesus: as always forgiving, healing, restoring the broken dignity of man. In this case, of a paralytic.

* Secondly, some friends who render the sick person a great service by overcoming all kinds of obstacles so that the sick friend can meet Jesus.

* The paralytic: who fulfils Jesus’ command: “Get up, take your stretcher and go home”.

* And finally, the learned men: they look at the rules rather than rejoice at the healing of a sick man. They censure Jesus for the healing realised.

+ Which of the four attitudes do you identify with most?

+ How are you going to work today to identify yourself better with the attitudes of Jesus, of the friends and of the paralytic?

Good day.
