THURSDAY 14th DECEMBER 2023
Matthew 11, 11-15
“He who has ears, let him hear”.
One of the figures that fills the time of Advent is that of John the Baptist. He is the austere, truthful and faithful man. He is the one who points to Jesus as the Messiah, as the Son of God and as the Saviour of the world. His greatness consists in the completion of a long path of God’s promises and he points to the realisation of these promises.
John the Baptist is like the hinge between the Old and the New Testament. That is why he leaps for joy in his mother’s womb when he hears the greeting of Mary, the new woman who carries in her womb the new man, who is Jesus. As Christians we can take an example from John the Baptist. At our baptism God called us by name for a specific mission: to proclaim Jesus by preparing his ways in all people.
Have ears to hear the voice of the Baptist pointing you to Jesus. And also have your lips ready to proclaim him.
Good day to you.
