FRIDAY 11th JUNE 2021
John 19, 31-37:
“One of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and immediately blood and water came out.”
Today we celebrate the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
To celebrate this feast is to celebrate love made self-giving to the end and to the extreme: “blood and water came out of his side”.
Jesus gave himself and gave everything. To the last drop of blood, which means to the last drop of life. Contemplating Jesus’ self-giving love also leads us to contemplate the self-giving that is or is not in our love.
It leads us to ask ourselves if we are really, and concretely, giving our blood, our life, for our brothers and sisters.
Ask Jesus today to help you to live in communion with him so that you may be a reflection of his love and so that you too may be able to give your life for your brothers and sisters to the last drop.
