TUESDAY 10th JANUARY 2023
Mark 1, 21b-28:
“They all wondered in amazement, “What is this? A new teaching authoritatively expounded. He even commands the unclean spirits and they obey him”.
The authority of Jesus in the Gospel of Mark is associated with the power to cast out demons, which is the same as the power to cast out from the human person everything that fetters and enslaves them.
The authority that flows from the person of Jesus is capable of healing suffering, of restoring joy and dignity and of restoring the person to his or her fullness as a human being.
You too can act with the authority of Jesus.
And you do so whenever you are compassionate towards the sufferings of others, whenever you come close to their problems, whenever you are a good Samaritan healing their wounds, whenever you comfort and share, whenever you spread joy and dissolve sorrows, whenever you sow peace and fight for justice….
When you act in this way, you are “casting out demons” because you are the extension of Jesus’ authority.
