MONDAY 7 DECEMBER 2020
Luke 5, 17-26:
“There came men carrying a paralytic on a stretcher and trying to get him in front of Jesus… And Jesus said to him, ‘Man, your sins are forgiven’… The scribes and the Pharisees began to think, “Who is this that speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God? But Jesus said to the paralytic, “To you I say, get up, take your stretcher, and go home. He rose to his feet in their sight, took the stretcher from where he was lying and went home, giving glory to God”.
In today’s Gospel there are several characters who also represent four different attitudes:
– First of all, Jesus. And, as always, forgiving, healing, restoring man’s broken dignity. In this case, of a paralytic.
– In the second place, some friends who render the sick person a great service, overcoming all kinds of obstacles, so that their sick friend can meet Jesus.
– The paralytic, who fulfils Jesus’ command to “get up, pick up your stretcher, and go home.
– And, finally, the lawyers: They look at the rules rather than rejoice at the healing of a sick man. They censure Jesus for the healing that has taken place.
+ Which of the four attitudes do you identify with most?
+ How are you going to work today to identify yourself better with the attitudes of Jesus, the paralytic and his friends?
Good day.
