“The launch of Proclade Canarias was filled with hopes and projects and opened new pathways to foster and encourage solidarity and sharing with the most disadvantaged…..”
Twenty-five years ago, the first annual report of Proclade Canarias was presented with these words. Since then, although time has passed, the enthusiasm that drives us has not diminished; on the contrary, it has grown with every passing year. This has been possible above all thanks to the Claretian Missionaries and lay collaborators who, in November 1999, dreamed of this project, brought it to life, and through their commitment have made it possible for us to continue moving forward.
From its beginnings, Proclade Canarias has carried out significant work in development cooperation and in supporting communities and regions in great need in different parts of the world.
Through effort and perseverance, we have enabled more than fifteen indigenous communities in the Puna region of Argentina to gain access to clean water. We have also supported the construction of numerous wells, teachers’ housing and sanitary facilities in the Zhomba mission in Zimbabwe.
Our Claretian NGO has collaborated—and continues to do so—in sustaining children’s and elderly canteens, shelters, schools and vocational training centres in regions such as Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, the Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Kenya, Morocco, Senegal, Tanzania, East Timor, Zimbabwe, India and China.
Over these 25 years, Proclade Canarias has promoted initiatives in the industrial, agricultural and livestock sectors, fostering job creation in several Latin American countries. It has also participated in health projects in Bolivia, Cameroon, the Philippines, India, Peru and Uganda, and responded to emergencies in places such as the Horn of Africa, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, India, Venezuela and Zimbabwe.
A very important aspect of our mission has been the commitment to the dignity of marginalised groups, supporting education as a key tool for personal growth and human development. In addition, we have carried out many other actions which are reflected in our annual reports.
Those of us who feel Proclade Canarias as our own can be proud of what we have achieved since its foundation. This achievement is the fruit of the efforts of many people: members, donors, volunteers, companies and institutions of the Canary Islands who have provided valuable social and economic support to our NGO.
