Serving the Word: Mk 12: 18-27

WEDNESDAY 3 JUNE

Mark 12, 18-27:
“You are wrong for not understanding the scripture and the power of God… For when the dead are raised, neither shall men marry nor women be given in marriage, but they shall be as the angels of heaven. He is not the God of the dead, but of the living… You are very wrong.

In today’s gospel we meet the Sadducees, who denied the resurrection of the dead. Their perspective did not go beyond this life. Their future ended in death.
Today, too, we encounter this Sadducean attitude. And sometimes in very disguised ways. We become attached to so many things that end in death that we lose the perspective of our future resurrection. Losing also the perspective of what is really important.
It is always good that we broaden our gaze and that we know how to see with perspective all that is relative, knowing how to value all that does not end with death but that is consolidated and planned with it.
To know that we are not children of death because our God is not a God of the dead but a God of the living.
Good day.
