FRIDAY 17 JANUARY 2020
Mark 2, 1-12:
“And four men came, carrying a paralytic, and because they could not get him in, because of the crowd, they lifted up some tiles over where Jesus was, and opened a hole, and took down the stretcher with the paralytic. Then Jesus said to the paralytic, “I am talking to you: get up, take your stretcher and go home”. He got up immediately, took up his stretcher and went out in front of everyone”.
In today’s Gospel several characters appear:
*First, Jesus: As always forgiving, healing, restoring man’s broken dignity. In this case, of a paralytic.
* In the second place, some friends who give the sick person a great service by overcoming all sorts of obstacles so that their sick friend can meet Jesus.
* The paralytic: who fulfills to the letter the command of Jesus: “Get up, take your stretcher and go home”.
* And finally, the lawyers: they look at the rules rather than rejoice at the healing of a sick man. They censure Jesus for the healing he has accomplished.
+ Which of the four attitudes do you identify with most?
+ How will you work today to better identify with the attitudes of Jesus, of his friends and of the paralytic?
Goodday.
