Serving the Word: Mt 5: 20-26

THURSDAY, 11 JUNE

Matthew 5, 20-26:
“If, when you go to lay your gift on the altar, you remember right there that your brother has a complaint against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go and be reconciled to your brother first, and then present your gift again.

Jesus warns us today of a double ritual that those of us who consider ourselves his followers may be performing: – On the one hand, we try to behave well with him, we want to please him and that is why we pray, we participate in some solidarity campaign, we collaborate with one or other NGO, we belong to some brotherhood or confraternity, we participate in some profession, we go to Mass on Sundays and even during the week, and we can also be taking part in some catechetical group.
– But, on the other hand, we are also paying homage to our envy and hatred, our laziness and indifference, our injustices and favouritism, our materialism and sensuality, our lack of faith, hope and charity.
Let us work so that we never separate the worship we give to God from the worship we give to our brother and sister. The two are inseparable.
Good day.
