Serving the Word: 4th February

FRIDAY 4th FEBRUARY 2022

Mark 6, 14-29:

“Immediately he commanded an executioner to bring John’s head. He went and beheaded him in prison, and brought his head on a platter and handed it to the young woman; the young woman gave it to her mother”.

Today we read in the Gospel the martyrdom of St. John the Baptist. Throughout his life, John lived in austerity, truth and integrity.

He announced the coming of Jesus, first of all, and then his presence.

His mission was to prepare the way for the people of Israel to welcome Jesus.

He preached conversion and had to confront lies and corruption. And that same lie and corruption took him out of the way by paying for his defence of the truth with his own head.

John the Baptist encourages all of us today to always stand up for the truth.

Let us ask the Lord, through John, for the courage he had to always stand up for what was right and what the Lord commanded.

Good day.
