Matthew 13, 10-17:
“For to the one who has will be given and he will have plenty, and from the one who has not will be taken away even what he has…you will hear with your ears without understanding; you will look with your eyes without seeing; for the heart is dull”.
It would be good for you to spend some quiet time today reading, meditating and praying that passage from the Gospel.
Whenever I read it I feel very much reflected in it and very much challenged by it. I wonder to what extent I have an effective desire for Jesus to be the true Lord of my life, because it makes me think a lot about “to the one who has will be given and he will have more than enough, and from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away from him”. And I ask the Lord that I may have a real desire to follow him so that he will give me even more desire and that the little that I may have will not be extinguished in me.
It also puts me on my guard that “you will hear with your ears and not understand; you will see with your eyes and not see, because your heart is dull”.
For it can happen to me that my heart becomes so hardened that it becomes insensitive to all that is Jesus and his Gospel.
I pray to the Lord that in all of us the beatitude that Jesus proclaims today in this Gospel will be fulfilled: “Blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.
Good day to you.
