TUESDAY 1st FEBRUARY 2022
Mark 5, 21-43:
“A ruler of the synagogue, whose name was Jairus, came to Jesus, and when he saw him, he fell at his feet and begged him earnestly, “My little girl is in her last days. Come, lay your hands on her, that she may be healed and live… “Jesus said to him, “Do not be afraid, it is enough for you to have faith. He went to the child, took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha qumi” (which means: “I am talking to you, child, get up”). The girl immediately got up and started to walk”.
I propose that you do the following exercise of contemplation today:
- Contemplate first of all what Jairus, the girl’s father, does: he throws himself at Jesus’ feet and begs him insistently. These are gestures that indicate recognition, adoration, humility and, above all, great faith.
- Contemplate the words and actions of Jesus:
- “Do not be afraid”: Jesus repeats several times throughout the Gospel. He always conveys peace, harmony and serenity.
- “He took her by the hand and said to her: ” Get up “: Jesus restores life. He lifts her up from discouragement, from prostration and death.
- Look at the little girl: “she immediately got up and started walking”: With the word and the power of Jesus, death becomes life.
- And finally, contemplate yourself:
* Do you throw yourself at the feet of Jesus and pray to him many times with insistence and faith?
* Do you place your fears, your troubles and your deaths in the hands of Jesus and let him take you by the hand and lift you up?
* With the help and strength of Jesus, are you able to stand up and walk?
Good day.
