CLARETIAN STUDENTS FROM EUROPE MEET IN SEGOVIA

From 27 February to 1 March, the European Meeting of Claretian Students took place at the “San Frutos” House of Spirituality in Segovia. The gathering brought together 32 students from the formation centres of the Provinces of Germany, Fatima, Poland, Sanctus Paulus, and Santiago, accompanied by their formators and Prefects of Formation. In total, 37 Claretians were in attendance.

The Province of Fatima was represented by students currently discerning in Granada, along with three students presently outside the Theologate—either on their pastoral year or undertaking a Master’s in Theology. A total of twelve students attended, accompanied by Fr Félix J. Martínez, Prefect of Formation and formator in Granada.

The central theme of the meeting, “The impact of new technologies on our consecrated life”, was led by Fr José Enrique García Rizo, a communications expert and, until recently, a member of the Congregation’s general Communications team.

Starting from the premise that we do not merely use technology but “inhabit” it, his reflection invited participants to face a decisive question: how is technology forming—or deforming—the person I am called to be? With clarity and realism, he stressed the importance of ensuring that the gift of one’s vocation is not compromised by the improper use of technology.

Through a participatory methodology—including keynote sessions, small group work, and plenary discussions—the participants delved into the implications of the digital world for personal life, spirituality, community living, the profession of vows, and the apostolic dimension.

The meeting was further enriched by a visit to the church of La Granja, where St Anthony Mary Claret received the “great grace of the conservation of the sacramental species”, and a fraternal gathering with the Claretian community in Segovia. Though brief, the experience was highly valued by all participants.
