THURSDAY 12th OCTOBER 2023
Luke 11, 27-28
“Blessed is the womb that bore you, the breasts that nursed you”. But Jesus replied: “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it”.
In today’s short Gospel, the feast of Our Lady of the Pillar, there are two beautiful compliments to Mary.
The first one comes from the lips of a woman of the village. She compliments Mary for being the mother of Jesus: “Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed you”.
The second comes from the lips of Jesus himself: “Better, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it”.
Jesus proclaims Mary blessed not because she is his mother, but because she hears and keeps the Word of God. Mary’s life is marked by listening, internalising and being faithful in fulfilling what God asks of her.
We too can be blessed like Mary if we allow the Word of God to guide our lives and we realise in the course of our lives all that God asks of us. We will be blessed because in the will of God for each one of us our joy and happiness will be born and reborn. May you be very happy and very blessed today.
Good day to you.
