Serving the Word: 8th September

THURSDAY 8 SEPTEMBER 2022

Matthew 1, 18-23:

“Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife, for the child in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins”.

Joseph appears today on the Gospel scene as he always appears: open to the ways of the Lord.

Joseph is the man who sees, believes, suffers, keeps silent, waits and obeys.

Different paths would pass through his mind, but when he saw the path that God marked out for him, because he needed it, he did not hesitate to commit himself and accept his will with all the consequences. He assumed in faith that God was at work in his life and in the life of Mary, and he lives this mysterious reality with gratitude. Ask the Lord, through the intercession of St. Joseph, that you may always accept his plans and realise them every day in your life.

Today we celebrate the Birth of the Virgin Mary.

The whole Church rejoices in this birth because Mary is like the dawn that announces to us the birth of the Sun, who is Jesus Christ.

We congratulate her on this birth. And we all rejoice in this birth. We congratulate all of you who are celebrating your Saint today under the many names we give to the Virgin Mary.

Good day.
