John 20,1-2.11-18:
“Woman, why are you weeping? Who are you looking for?”.
I have recently spent a few days on retreat. I have focused on the various questions that Jesus asks in the Gospel today. I have tried to answer from my life those questions that Jesus puts on different occasions and to different people.
And, precisely today, Jesus asks two questions:
1: “Why are you crying?”
2: “Who are you looking for?”
And, arising from those questions, I would also like to ask these questions:
+ What are the things that cause my crying?
+ Am I crying for myself or am I crying for others?
+ Do I cry for my own sufferings or do I shed tears for the sufferings of my brothers and sisters?
+ Is my crying selfish or does my crying come from seeing the needs that surround me?
+ Who am I looking for in truth?
+ Am I looking for Jesus, or am I looking out for myself?
+ In everything I do, do I seek my own interests, my own satisfaction, my own comfort…or do I always seek the good of others?
May we, like Mary Magdalene, always cry on losing Jesus and always seek him from the love that is lost in the one who loves.
