The commentary for Sunday: IV of Ordinary Time

The prophet Jeremiah was a young man who God chose so that, in his name, he would denounce the corruption of his time, the loss of faith, the ineffective and counterproductive political alliances which in the end led the people to destruction. God tells him, “do not be afraid of them; they will fight against you, but they will not overcome you, because I am with you”.
Jesus says in the synagogue of Nazareth, “Today the words you have just heard have been fulfilled”. That is, I am the one sent by God. At that moment, St. Luke tells us, everyone was filled with admiration, but when he accused them of their lack of faith, they wanted to throw him over the cliff.
We Christians must not lose heart in our mission to be witnesses to evangelical values, in a society in which many are rejected and even persecuted. Today also he says to us, “don’t be afraid tell them what I have commanded you I am with you”.
Jeremiah and Jesus did not keep quiet, despite the opposition. We too have to be consistent with our faith commitment. We need to resort to prayer and say, “I call on you Lord, be the rock of my stronghold”.
