Serving the Word: 5th November

Luke 16:1-8:

“Surely the sons of this world are more shrewd with their own people than the sons of light.”

Apart from other things you might think of as you read today’s Gospel, it strikes you that this rich man’s steward goes out of his way to make good friends among the needy.

What this steward does raises a question in me that I share with you: do I use the personal resources I have – because God has given them to me – with those in need?

We all have many resources that we should learn to use and manage for the benefit of others, using all our astuteness and creativity.

At least, using all the cunning and creativity that we use for many other things.

It is commendable to praise the astuteness and creativity of many organisations – CAFOD, for example – that knock on many doors so that love and solidarity can spread throughout the world.

And the astuteness and creativity of so many people who put their skills at the service of those who suffer most is also to be praised.

Today, present all these people and associations to the Lord and ask him to give you too energy and initiative in the promotion of those most in need.

Good day.
