FRIDAY 5th FEBRUARY 2021
Mark 6,. 14-29:
“He immediately sent an executioner to bring the head of John. He went and beheaded him in prison, and brought the head on a platter and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother.”
Today in the Gospel we read of the martyrdom of St. John the Baptist. Throughout his life, John lived in austerity, truth and integrity.
He announced, without any concealment, the coming of Jesus first and his presence later.
His mission was to prepare the way for the people of Israel to welcome Jesus.
He preached conversion and had to face lies and corruption. And that same lie and corruption took him away by paying with his own head for the defence of the truth.
John the Baptist encourages all of us today to always defend the truth.
Let us ask the Lord, through John, for the courage he had to always defend what was right and what the Lord commanded.
Good day.
