Serving the Word: 3rd November

THURSDAY 3rd NOVEMBER 2022

Luke 15, 1-10:

“If one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one, does he not leave the ninety-nine in the field and go after the one that has gone astray until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, very glad”.

The tax collectors and sinners listen while the Pharisees and scribes murmur.

I like to listen to the words of Jesus who openly takes the side of the sinner represented in the lost sheep.

I also like to contemplate the reactions of Jesus motivated by this lost sheep:

1: He leaves the ninety-nine in the field.

2: He goes in search of the one that has gone astray.

3: He does not stop until he finds it.

4: He carries it on his shoulders, very happy.

5: Gathers friends and neighbours.

6: He invites them to congratulate him because he has found the lost sheep.

I like to contemplate these reactions of Jesus because they immerse me in the infinite mercy of God the Father.

The Father loves us to the end and is always looking for those who stray from the path.

Today, feel that you are both sheep and shepherd. Sheep because you need the mercy of the Good Shepherd. And shepherd because you too must seek out your lost brothers and sisters.

Good day to you.
