Serving the Word: 20th September

Luke 8, 19-21:

“These are my mother and my brothers: those who hear the word of God and do it”.

In today’s Gospel, it seems as if Jesus is disregarding his relatives and even his own mother.

This is not the case. What Jesus wants us to see and understand is that there are bonds with him that are stronger than the bonds of flesh and blood.

And they are the bonds of faith.

Trust in him and following him are above all else.

Mary was praised because she conceived Jesus in her womb.

But also her cousin Elizabeth congratulated her because she believed in the word that was addressed to her from God and that she listened so attentively that it became flesh in her womb.

May you be a mother, brother or sister of Jesus because you also know how to listen to his Word and put it into action.

Good day.
