Serving the Word: 20th January

WEDNESDAY 20th JANUARY 2021

Mark 3, 1-6:

“Jesus entered the synagogue again, and there was a man there whose hand was paralyzed… Jesus said to him, “Get up and stand in the middle… put out your hand”… he put it out and his hand was restored.”

Again we witness another act of Jesus in which he restores the lost dignity of a man who, because of his handicap, would have to beg for food.

And Jesus does this in a sacred place: the synagogue. And at a sacred time: the Sabbath.

This indicates that what is really sacred to him is the human person.

He says to the man: “Get up!” Which is the same as saying to him: “Rise up!”. Because God does not accept anything that can mortify or degrade man, enslave him or annul him.

God wants for humanity dignity, love, care, hope, joy, health…

Think today of those facets of your life that may be somewhat withered and place them in the presence of Jesus.

He too says to you: ” Get up!”, “Rise up!”.

And even today you can meet people who have stunted their hope, their joy, their capacity to love or their capacity to forgive.

Tell them with your deeds what Jesus said to the one who was handicapped: “Get up and stand in the middle… put out your hand”

Good day.
