Serving the Word: 18th October

MONDAY 18th OCTOBER 2021

Luke 10, 1-9:

“The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest. Set out on the journey!”.

A short while ago we made the following commentary on this reading:

Today too, as in the time of Jesus, the harvest is plentiful and the labourers are few.

Even without knowing it, our world hungers and thirsts for God because it hungers and thirsts for peace and justice, for forgiveness and mercy, for goodness and beauty, for love and acceptance.

Our world is like a huge field waiting for God’s rain because it is dying of thirst.

And it is waiting for workers who will set out on the road, overcoming obstacles, putting all their effort into it, ready to keep going, travelling very light and without fear of tiredness.

Set out today!

Be in tune with the whole Church which, following the example of Pope Francis, wants to live in “going forth”!

We do not evangelise from paralysis and with our arms folded, sitting quietly in an office or in an armchair. We evangelise by going out of ourselves and setting out on a journey. Let us also ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.

And offer yourself wholeheartedly to be one of them.

Good day.
