Serving the Word: 16th January

SATURDAY 16th JANUARY 2021

Mark 2, 13-17:

“As he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office, and he said to him, ‘FOLLOW ME’.

HE GOT UP AND FOLLOWED HIM … While Jesus was at table in his house, some of the scribes and Pharisees, seeing that he was eating with tax collectors and sinners, said to his disciples, ” He is eating with tax collectors and sinners. Jesus heard this and said to them, “Healthy people do not need a doctor, but sick people do. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners”.

Tax collectors were undesirable people, very badly looked upon and hated by the population.

But Jesus comes to them and even eats with them.

Today we see how Jesus calls a publican and a sinner to be his follower.

The salvation Jesus brings is for everyone and more for those who need it most.

We can all sit very quietly behind our particular “tax counter”.

No matter how idle you are at your “tax counter”, do not doubt that Jesus has always reserved his call and his mercy for you.

Feel the salvation of Christ very close to you and sit at his table this weekend too: the table of the Eucharist.

Good day.
