Serving the Word: 16th January

MONDAY 16th JANUARY 2023

Mark 2, 18-22:

“No one puts new wine into old wineskins; for the skins burst, and the wine and the skins are lost; new wine, new skins.”

To give us an understanding of the relationship that Jesus has with us, today’s Gospel uses the symbol of a wedding feast.

It is a relationship in which there is joy, hope, rejoicing.

Being with Jesus Christ is always like being at a wedding, accompanying the bridegroom, who is himself, savouring that moment of rejoicing, hope and joy.

Being with Jesus can never lead us to sadness, quite the contrary.

With Jesus everything is new because he is the new wine that renews all things.

Pope Francis tells us that with Jesus joy is always born and reborn.

May your joy not be born from the surface or from the ephemeral. Nor from the old.

May your joy always be born of your renewed and deep relationship with Jesus Christ.

Do not doubt it: the deeper and deeper your relationship with Jesus, the more newness you will find in your life and in everything around you.

Always pour the new wine that Jesus brings into the new wineskin of your ever-renewed life.

In this way your joy will always be deep and profound.

Good day to you.
