Serving the Word: 15th December

TUESDAY 15 DECEMBER 2020

Matthew 21, 28-32:

“Jesus told his disciples this parable: What do you think? a man had two sons. He went to the first and said, “Son, go and work in the vineyard today. He said to him, “I don’t want to”. But then he repented and went. He went to the second and said the same thing. He said, “I am going, sir”. But he did not go. Which of the two fulfilled his father’s will? They answered: “the first one”.

“Words fly away but deeds remain”.

And Jesus, in another passage of the Gospel, tells us: “by their fruits you will know them”.

Today’s Gospel is a call to consistency. To say yes with deeds.

With our mouths we can all say what we think is right at any given moment. But we may be feeling something else very different in our hearts.

These two brothers feel what their mouths do not say. And, when it comes down to it, what counts is what the heart does.

In the heart we have coherence and we have truth.

The heart is what makes the hands and feet work.

Try to make sure that in your life your words are in line with what you feel.

Do I say “yes” with my mouth and then “no” with my heart and with my actions?

May your heart and your deeds correct the “no” in your mouth and may it not be the other way around.

Good day.
