Serving the Word: 12th October

TUESDAY 12th OCTOBER 2021

Luke 11, 27-28:

“A woman out of the crowd raised her voice and said to Jesus, ‘Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed you.’ But Jesus said: Better still, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it”.

Today’s short Gospel contains two precious compliments addressed to Mary.

The first one comes from the lips of a woman of the village. She compliments Mary for being the mother of Jesus: “Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed you”.

The second comes from the lips of Jesus himself: “Better, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it”.

Jesus proclaims Mary blessed not because she is his mother, but because she hears and keeps the Word of God.

Mary’s life is marked by listening, internalising and being faithful in fulfilling what God asks of her.

You too can be blessed and happy like Mary if you let the Word of God guide your life and you fulfil all that God asks of you in the course of your life.

You will be blessed because your joy and happiness will be born and reborn in God’s will for you.

May you be very happy and blessed today.

Today in Spain they celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Pillar.

Good day.
