THURSDAY 10 DECEMBER 2020
Matthew 11, 11-15:
“He who has ears to hear, let him hear”.
One of the characters that fills the Advent season is John the Baptist.
He is the austere, truthful and faithful man. He is the one who points to Jesus as the Messiah, as the Son of God and as the Saviour of the world.
His greatness consists in completing the long journey of God’s promises and pointing out the realization of those promises.
John the Baptist is like the hinge between the Old and the New Testament. That is why he leaps for joy in his mother’s womb when he hears the greeting of Mary, the new woman who carries in her womb the new man, who is Jesus.
As Christians, we can take the example of John the Baptist.
At our baptism God calls us by name for a concrete mission: that of also announcing Jesus by preparing his ways in all people.
Have ears to listen to the voice of the Baptist who points you to Jesus.
And have your lips ready to announce him.
Good day.
